Frequentley Asked Questions

Q) What is Kirlian photography?

  • Kirlian electro-photography is a process that uses high voltages and high frequencies to take photographs of usually invisible radiating energy fields that all living things produce. The Kirlian camera does not have a lens like an ordinary camera, instead it has an insulated flat electrode that the subject being photographed, is placed upon. It’s a bit like contact photography.

The Kirlian digital system does the same only uses a digital capture system to take the electrographs instead of photo paper or film.

    Q)How does it work?

  • It works by placing a piece of photographic paper or film on the electrode then placing the subject to be photographed on the paper. The camera then releases a torrent of electrons that cascade over the subject placed on the photo paper or film. Electrons are very light particles and tend to be easily deflected by electromagnetic fields. Everyone one of us produces electromagnetic fields due to all the electrical activity going on in the nervous system, brain, heart and muscles of the body in general.

  • It is thought that the electrons released by the Kirlian camera are deflected by the subjects electromagnetic field that is radiating from the subjects hands, releasing photons of light as they do so, which exposes the photo paper or film, which captures the image. Its not unlike the science experiment of using iron filings to trace a magnetic field around a magnet except we are using electrons and electro-magnetic fields instead.

    Q) Why do you photograph the hands?

  • Many nerve endings culminate in the hands producing lots of electrical activity, so they are excellent areas to use to photograph a persons electromagnetic field.

  • As electromagnetic fields reflect, among other things, the strength of the electrical activity that produces them, it becomes possible to observe the strength of this activity using Kirlian photography.

    Q)What does it mean?

  • What the interference pattern captured digitally, or on photo paper/film means is open to question. We believe there is certainly more to it than a purely random event.

Scientists who believe nothing exists other than what can be perceived by the physical senses, will say it is a random event explained away by the laws of physics and has no meaning.

Scientists who believe there is an ordered energetic pattern behind life, will say that part of the process can explained by the laws of physics but the meaning of the Kirlian images captured cannot, as they reflect the unseen dynamic energy matrix all life depends on.

  • The Russians believe it has a scientific basis and have spent millions of dollars researching Kirlian photography over the last 70 years. A number of scientific papers have been published and are in the public domain.
